Climate Change OST: Day 2

In my very first blog post, I talked about how reducing our meat consumption could effectively mitigate the effects of climate change.

Specifically, the amount of nutrients and emissions released that goes into the cattle industry is astronomical in comparison to other food groups; "The process generates copious amounts of nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide, while the output of methane—another potent greenhouse gas—from cattle is estimated to generate some 20 percent of overall U.S. methane emissions.

Cultural/moral etc influences aside, industries like cattle ranching already substantially contribute to deforestation as well as water pollution. In this regard, my goal for this week was to decrease my animal product consumption. This honestly wasn't difficult, as I don't really consume meat normally, and being in quarantine means that I had more control of what I ate (as opposed to normal times, when grocery shopping wasn't so intentional). Overall, I don't think I noticed even any difference in my diet but reducing animal product consumption is something I will continue to be mindful of, going forward.
