During elementary school, I remember being taught the three Rs: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Although these things are important and practical, everyday consumers shouldn't be held accountable for the effects of climate. In actuality, 100 companies create 71% of global emissions.
For this reason, one of the biggest 'small things' we can do is holding these companies and our elected officials accountable, and just being aware of the greatest contributors to climate change. This may be overwhelming, but it can take place in many forms. One way that awareness can be spread is by word of mouth; tell your family and friends! Another form of spreading awareness can be through social media, and using your platform for social change. Finally, contact your elected officials! This is arguably the most effective 'small thing' to do to hold these companies accountable.
